Jesse Sizmo (Lips & Rhythm Records, San Francisco)

Jesse Sizmo is the casual boss of Lips & Rhythm Records. He has hosted a weekly radio show for 8 years and has spent the same amount of time DJing and digging for records around the planet. His ongoing sound exploration has led him to many wonderful international artists who have released on his vinyl imprint that floats between house, disco, funk, and Balearic frequencies. A musician since his youth, Sizmo absorbed a wide range of world music beyond contemporary trends and was taught to ignore genres and go with what feels good. This boundary-blurring established a strong foundation for him as a selector in the booth and an A&R man in the field, hosting day parties and label nights coming up in San Francisco with his ‘family’ of producers. He is also 1⁄2 of the production duo Birds Of Rhythm with longtime partner Soleil and also releases music as Bad Kids Beach Club with Seb Hall. For Sizmo, curating music and DJing is all about sharing a timeless adventure through sound with everyone he meets.

Jesse Sizmoは、Lips & Rhythm Recordsを率いる“カジュアル・ボス”。8年間にわたり毎週のラジオ番組をホストし、同じく約8年にわたって世界各地でDJとレコードディギングを続けてきた。絶え間ないサウンド探求の中で出会った素晴らしい国際的アーティストたちが、彼のヴァイナル・レーベルから作品をリリースしている。そのレーベルは、ハウス、ディスコ、ファンク、バレアリックといった周波数のあいだを軽やかに行き来している。

幼少期から音楽に親しんできた彼は、同時代のトレンドにとらわれない幅広いワールドミュージックを吸収し、「ジャンルに縛られず、心地よいと感じるものに従う」姿勢を学んだ。この境界を越える感覚は、ブースでのセレクターとして、そして現場でのA&Rとしての確かな基盤となっている。サンフランシスコでは、プロデューサー仲間という“ファミリー”とともにデイパーティーやレーベルナイトも主催している。

また、長年のパートナーSoleilとのプロダクション・デュオ「Birds Of Rhythm」の一員であり、Seb Hallとのユニット「Bad Kids Beach Club」としても楽曲を発表している。

Sizmoにとって、音楽をキュレーションしDJをすることは、出会うすべての人々と“時代を超えるサウンドの冒険”を分かち合うことなのだ。
