Ace Hotel Kyoto presents a photography exhibition by Tokyo-based photographer
Kohey Kanno, whose work has received recognition through international awards.
Through a sequence of everyday images, Kanno explores visual expressions that unravel the structures of society and the ways communities are formed.
Guided by the enduring idea that “the personal is political,”
the exhibition invites viewers to reflect on the complexities of a diverse society through photographs shaped by his distinct perspective.

東京をベースに活動し、国際的なアワードでの受賞歴も持つ写真家・菅野恒平(Kohey Kanno)氏による写真展を開催します。日常的なイメージの連続から、社会の構造やコミュニティの成り立ちを解きほぐす表現を模索する作品群を展示。
「個人的なことは政治的なこと」という大きなテーマのもと、独自の視点で切り取られた写真を通じて、多様な社会への問いかけを提示します。

Born in Tokyo, Kohey Kanno graduated from the Department of Photography at Nihon University College of Art. In 2008, he relocated to New York, where he worked as an assistant to photographer David Benjamin Sherry before returning to Japan in 2016.
That same year, he received both the Bruno Kersch Award and the Charlotte Cotton Award at the JAPAN PHOTO AWARD. In 2017, he was selected for “BEYOND 2020 #5,” organized by IMA Magazine. His exhibitions have toured internationally in Amsterdam, Tokyo, and Paris.
His major works include LIBIDO and Honeymoon (Session Press), as well as Unseen / Tsunami (Dashwood Books), co-authored with Momo Okabe. More recent works include Rolling Eyes and Toughness and Humor.
東京生まれ。日本大学芸術学部写真学科卒業。2008年にニューヨークへ移住しデヴィッド・ベ ンジャミン・シェリーのアシスタントを経て、2016年に帰国。同年JAPAN PHOTO AWARDにてブ ルーノ・ケルシュ賞、シャーロット・コットン賞を受賞。2017年、IMAマガジン主催「BEYOND 2020 #5」に選出。アムステルダム、東京、パリにて巡回展を行う。 主な作品に「LIBIDO」「ハネムーン」(Session Press)、岡部桃との共著「Unseen / Tsunami」 (Dashwoodbooks)、近作に「Rolling eyes」「タフネスとユーモア」など。
