Can you be in love with a place? Japan has been writ in our hearts since we started and we’re not the only ones. Kyoto has been a muse and lodestar to David Bowie, Charlotte Periand, The Talking Heads and poet Gary Snyder. It’s a place that exalts the simple pleasures and respect for traditions and each other. We’re situated just a stone’s throw from contemporary cultural treasures like the Nishiki Market, the Museum of Kyoto and Kyoto Art Center, and just steps away from Kamesuehiro, the iconic 200-year old confectionary.
Ace Hotel Kyoto makes its home in a part new build and part former home to a beloved telephone company. Masterfully dovetailed by the legendary architect Kengo Kuma, the building is a place in honest dialogue with the city’s past and future legends. We’re hanging the art, firing up coffee machines and rolling out the tatami mats. Ace Hotel Kyoto opens this April, but you can book a room now.

Greek Visions Finds Meaning in Incoherence
“It’s an incoherent archive of contemporary Greek culture,” says Greek Visions founder Takis Zontiros. What began as an Instagram account cataloguing movements and moments in Greece’s past and recent present — 1970s to 2010s — grew long, curious arms. Greek Visions resembles a virtual museum preserving the minute and monumental of the country’s cultural identity, its reach now spanning a popular Instagram account, regular merch drops and a Substack. Newly notched in the brand’s résumé — curator of the in-room vinyl at Ace Hotel & Swim Club Athens (hear a preview here) and collaborator on an apparel collection that revives the decadence of Greek discotheques.

The painting, a riotously colorful ode to communing with nature, isn't just a call to get off your phone, but more broadly to take a step back and think about what matters.

An Endless Art Practice
It’s her studio, but to a passerby Hyungi Park would seem out of place. A vision in all black, the 28-year-old artist dons only a trace of color — the smattering of red tattoos that start on her left cheek and snake their way down her neck and arms, punctuating the thick collage of black ink. Her studio, on the other hand, is almost ethereal. Its white walls hold shelves brimming with machines, tools and containers of organic materials that Hyungi foraged, found or made.
